OFGEN energy seeks partnerships to improve image of solar energy as a reliable energy source in Kenia

uitdaging

Solar as a source of energy hasn’t yet quite been widely accepted as a major and reliable source of energy in Kenya. We have few case studies of robust reliable systems implemented, which does not help, with the skeptics. At OFGEN energy we have extended experience with solar energy and are looking for partnerships to change this perspective.

About OFGEN:

OFGEN aims to create a sustainable future by providing innovative and appropriate solar PV solutions which adequately meet the needs and expectations of our clients. And we aspire to be the leading solar PV technology company in East and Central Africa. OFGEN energy offers solar energy saving solutions for private residential energy management and commercial PV systems for industrial plants. The company leverages modern-day technology to design and deliver PV and thermal systems.

We work by investing into projects, procuring and installing the systems, then going further to manage and maintain performance. The company further offers energy audits to identify where energy is used and provide cost effective recommendations for our clients. Furthermore, we perform feasibility studies for large solar projects.

More accessible and efficient energy usage

Ofgen is committed to seeing more accessible and efficient energy usage in East Africa and contribute to the sustainable development goals. We acknowledge that many cannot be able to afford the solutions that are offered in the market. In that regard, we offer financial solutions in the form of solar mortgages and leasing options for our clients. Solar is not the only solution to the energy challenge. Ofgen has evolved to new product lines and we are currently working on feasibility studies to explore the potential of affordable and efficient waste to energy solutions as well as wind energy.

Solar energy as a reliable energy source in Kenya

Solar as a source of energy hasn’t yet quite been widely accepted as a major and reliable source of energy in Kenya. We have few case studies of robust reliable systems implemented, which does not help, with the skeptics. Lack of capacity in local project development and EPC, Engineering Procurement Construction, (engineering design of the solar system, procuring of the materials detailed in the design doc and actual implementation/construction of the solar PV system) work, makes it harder to advance its footprint locally and in Africa as a whole. This also extends to local financing institutions that see investments in solar energy as very high risk and are thus unwilling to participate in investing in the industry.

Partnerships for opening Kenyan market for solar energy

As OFGEN, already playing in this space, we are focused on demystifying the solar energy industry by designing and implementing high quality and reliable systems, with favorable financial models both for the investors and the off-takers, to allow them to fully embrace the technology. We have, so far, successfully implemented over 2MW solar systems and that still is not enough. We need to build more. We need partnerships that will help us further develop our capacity as project developers and EPC’s, provide easily accessible financing to offset off-takers upfront cost burden, and acquire high quality materials that will increase trust and reliability in the solutions we implement.
